US government calls for privacy oversight over the possible sale of Character.AI conversations

According to the report by The Record, the Executive Office for US Trustees, linked to the Department of Justice, stated that a consumer privacy ombudsman is needed to advise the court on which Character.AI data may be sold and under what conditions. The position concerns the possible sale of conversation data from the platform's users and shows that, in this type of proceeding, conversation data can carry asset value and require legal and technical control before any transfer.
